Montgomery County, Ala. – A Montgomery County District Attorney Office Investigator is being recognized by his peers across the state for his exemplary work, demonstrating the highest levels of integrity and professionalism, and for serving as a positive role model in the community.
John “J.P.” Wilson is the 2019 recipient of the B.J. Gatlin Memorial Award for the Alabama District Attorney Investigator of the Year. The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office submitted a summary of Wilson’s vast contributions to the office over the years to the Alabama District Attorney Investigators Association, which presents the award annually.
District Attorney Daryl Bailey said Wilson is a vital member of theMontgomery District Attorney’s Office Investigation Unit, which he joined in 2014. Wilson has worked on several major cases, helping prosecutors obtain key evidence and tracking down witnesses who are essential to getting successful convictions.
“Our entire office is elated that J.P. Wilson has been selected as the 2019 District Attorney Investigator of the Year. He helps our prosecutors prepare for some of our most difficult cases. He is committed to his job and works tirelessly every day to get justice for the victims of Montgomery County crimes and their families,” District Attorney Bailey said.
Chief Investigator Michael Thomas echoed District Attorney Baileys’ remarks. Chief Investigator Thomas was the 2014 Alabama District Attorney Investigator of the Year and is delighted that a member of his team is now the recipient of this prestigious honor.
“Throughout the years, J.P. has demonstrated outstanding serviceto this office and this community,” Thomas said, noting that Wilson serves as a mentor to youth in outreach organizations such as That’s My Child. “He works hard and treats everyone he meets with compassion and respect, no matter what their status is in life. Herepresents the best of what investigators across the state strive to do daily: secure important evidence, find key witnesses and bring victims closure to whatever crime has been committed against them.
Wilson, who is a proud graduate of Alabama State University, said he was surprised to learn he had been selected as the 2019 Alabama District Attorney Investigator of the Year. He said District Attorney Bailey, Chief Deputy District Attorney Lloria James, Chief Investigator Thomas and the dedicated team of Investigators at the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office inspire him to remainsteadfast in his commitment to his work.
“I must first give thanks to God and my family because I would not be where I am today without them. I am truly humbled and honored to be selected by my colleagues around the state as Investigator of the Year. I enjoy my job and receiving this award motivates me to continue to provide a high level of service to the District Attorney’s Office and all the citizens of Montgomery County,” Wilson said.
