Young man Sentenced to 65 years for Reckless Murder

Montgomery County, Ala. – Jaderrian Hardy has been sentenced to 65 years in prison for the 2015 reckless murder of Brandon Brown, District Attorney Daryl Bailey announced today.

On February 22, 2015, Brown was driving in the area of Calmar Drive/Gaslight Curve when a shootout erupted in the streets. Brown, who was simply trying to get through the intersection, was not involved in the gunfight and did not know the people involved.

A bullet came through the back windshield of his car and struck him in the back of the head, causing him to crash and overturn his vehicle. Brown never regained consciousness and died five days later at Baptist Medical Center South.

Jaderrian Hardy, along with four other teens, was involved two days later in a home burglary in Millbrook, AL. One of the perpetrators was killed in a gunfight with police during the burglary. For that offense, Hardy was charged with felony murder and was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Upon his arrest in Millbrook, Hardy was found in possession of a 9 mm pistol. Firearms analysis later determined that the bullet retrieved from Brandon Brown’s head was fired from Hardy’s gun. Hardy admitted to firing the fatal shot and subsequently pled guilty to reckless murder. Judge Johnny Hardwick ordered that Hardy’s sentences run consecutively.

District Attorney Daryl Bailey expressed his appreciation to Deputy District Attorneys Michele Davidson and Scott Green for their outstanding work. He also thanked Detective Naquin of the Montgomery Police Department for his work in the investigation of the case.

District Attorney Bailey said: “With two consecutive sentences totaling 85 years, Jaderrian Hardy will no longer be able to harm innocent, law-abiding citizens. It is my hope that this conviction and the sentencing of this repeat criminal offender will reinforce the message that senseless acts of violence can lead to a lifetime behind bars.”
