The morning begins with President Ross’s address at 9 a.m. in the auditorium of ASU’s Abernathy College of Education.

It continues at 11:30 a.m. with President Ross holding a media conference to announce ASU’s hosting of the upcoming Montgomery BEST Robotics Competition, this will  take place in ASU’s . Percy Vaughn College of Business Administration’s room 202.

The news media is invited to attend both events and report on the innovative, educational and fun activities that the students will be participating in at the camp, and to learn about the opportunities concerning bringing a robotics competition to Montgomery will afford the city and its residents.

Camp I.T. will have over 200 eighth-grade students present who are representing 11 middle schools (both public and private) from throughout the area. ASU has hosted Camp I.T. since it’s inception over 10 years ago.

This S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) event is for the area’s best and brightest young minds, and it is sponsored by TECHMGM and the Montgomery AFCEA Chapter-Education FoundationCamp I.T. will feature keynote speakers, hands-on demonstrations and breakout sessions for students to learn, participate and engage in STEM events and information technology activities.

The rationale for sponsoring Camp I.T. is because Montgomery’s business community, civic leadership and educational institutions (like Alabama State University) recognize that if Montgomery wishes to stay on the leading-edge of innovation that it must invest in the education and motivation of its young people so they stay abreast of and interested in S.T.E.M. subjects and information technology activities. By hosting Camp I.T. at ASU, it exposes middle-school aged students to the careers and possibilities of these areas of study.

Camp I.T. also allows students to see how STEM is used in everyday life, as well as in academic programs, which in turn motivates them to become more involved in the Montgomery community and to explore additional opportunities in STEM. studies and careers.
