Boren Resigns as Faulkner Head Football coach

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – After four seasons as head football coach and six years total on staff, Charlie Boren has stepped down as leader of the Faulkner program.

“I have loved every minute of my time at Faulkner,” Boren said, “and want to thank Dr. Billy Hilyer for the confidence he had in me to lead this program. The best thing about this university is the people; the administration, the faculty and most importantly, the players and coaches that I’ve had the opportunity to work with. We’ve won a lot of football games, but more importantly, we have had the opportunity to have a positive impact on those we have coached.”

The Eagles were 29-13 under his leadership and posted winning records all four seasons. The team also made the playoffs for just the second time in program history in his first year at the helm.

Faulkner was 7-3 this season with all three losses coming at the hands of nationally-ranked powers.

When asked about the direction he see’s his career taking, Boren reiterated his remarks about impacting his athletes.

“I really miss mentoring the younger players,” he said. “At my core I still consider myself a high school coach. As much as I’ve valued working with these college players, I enjoyed coaching athletes at the high school level and helping guide them earlier in their lives and careers.”

Though Boren hadn’t ruled out the possibility of returning to the college stage down the road, he said he also misses the special atmosphere surrounding Friday nights and the community excitement those games provide.

“Charlie is a wonderful Christian man and has been a valuable leader for the football program,” said Faulkner athletic director Hal Wynn. “He’s engaged with the players both on and off the field and the team’s involvement with Davis Elementary is a fine example of that. We appreciate the great job he did while here and we wish him all the best in this new path he’s perusing.”

Faulkner will post the position immediately with plans to begin interviews after the first of the year.
