Alabama State to host ASU Invitational beginning Friday

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Alabama State University tennis teams will play their first home matches of the season beginning on Friday morning with the Alabama State Invitational to be played at the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center.

 

The teams will play host to Presbyterian College, Alabama A&M University and Jacksonville State University over the weekend-long tournament. Play will start at 10:00 am Friday morning with Alabama State facing Presbyterian (both men and women), which will be followed by Jacksonville State (4-0 men, 2-1 women) and Alabama A&M at 12:30 pm. The opening day of the tournament concludes with Presbyterian (2-3 men, 4-2 women) taking on Alabama A&M at 4 pm.

 

The tournament continues on Saturday with each team in action beginning with Jacksonville State and Presbyterian at 10 am, followed by Alabama A&M (0-5 men, 0-0 women) facing Alabama State (0-3 men, 1-2 women) at 1 pm.

 

The teams will conclude play on Sunday as Jacksonville State and Alabama State will meet in the only match of the day, beginning at 1 pm.

 

The Lady Hornets enter the match following a decisive 7-0 victory over Savannah State in their last match, nearly two weeks ago. In that match, Alabama State lost just 22 games in the seven matches that were played and picking up straight set wins in all five singles matches.

 

Meanwhile, the Alabama State men’s tennis team enters the tournament following their last match in which they fell 4-3 to South Carolina State. In that match, the Hornets picked up wins at number one and three singles, as well as picking up two of the three doubles matches (winning the point).
