BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – Faulkner (13-9, 8-5 SSAC) scored the first basket of the game and never led again in tonight’s 54-50 loss here against Blue Mountain (10-8, 7-6 SSAC).
The highlight of the evening for the Eagles was the much-awaited return of Di’mar Hill and the senior guard didn’t disappoint.
Hill led all scorers with 27 points while adding five steals, four rebounds and three assists. He shot 47 percent from the field and was 12-of-15 from the free throw line.
Hill missed the last 7 1/2 games as a result of a hand injury.
While the Toppers might have struggled containing the Eagle point guard, the remainder of the roster was another story and ultimately proved key in the final outcome.
Blue Mountain kept Logan Jozwaik, Jose Jimenez and Marquis Grays, all big weapons for Faulkner in recent outings, to just 15 points combined.
In addition, the home team dominated on the glass, out-rebounding the Eagles 39 to 26 while scoring eight points courtesy 11 offensive grabs.
Faulkner will next travel to Hattiesburg, Miss., where it will take on No. 19 William Carey in more SSAC action. The contest will be hosted by Southern Mississippi in light of heavy tornado damage on the Crusader campus. The contest is slated for 1:30 p.m.Saturday at Reed Green Coliseum. Faulkner defeated William Carey 94-82 in their previous matchup this season
