MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Brenau (13-6, 6-5 SSAC) never trailed and led by as many as 18 points en route to the 77-64 victory over Faulkner (14-8, 6-6 SSAC) here in this afternoon’s Southern States Athletic Conference showdown at Tine Davis Gymnasium.
The Golden Tigers were paced by Braih Woods who had 18 points and six rebounds followed a double-double effort from Jasmine Knight who finished play with 13 points and 10 boards.
Faith LeGate led the Lady Eagles on the scoring front with 19 points, 15 of which were tallied in the second half. The senior also had five rebounds.
Shelby Williams was next in line with 10 points and added three rounds and steals.
Kayla Tillman offered up nine points and had three rebounds and steals as well.
Olivia Adamson led the defense with 10 rebounds while also booking four points and assists in addition to three takeaways.
“They were ready from the start of the game and we were not,” said head coach Reed Sutton, “and we got beat. You have to give them all the credit. We tried forcing mid-range shots and they hit them and we started putting them on the line late and they hit their free throws. They just slammed the door on us after we had a nice run and they earned the win.”
Faulkner will next travel to Blue Mountain for an SSAC showdown in Mississippi on Feb. 2. Tipoff is slated for 5:30 p.m.
