MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Faulkner (14-7, 6-5 SSAC) snapped a three-game Southern States Athletic Conference losing streak and evened the playing field against Middle Georgia State (5-12, 3-8 SSAC) with the 80-69 victory here at Tine Davis Gymnasium this evening.
The Knights defeated the Lady Eagles 64-59 in the league opener in Cochran in early December, but brilliant second half work by Faulkner evened out the series today.
The back and fourth ball game sat at a 35-35 tie at halftime and the two teams were separated by just a basket entering the final quarter of play.
The last 10 minutes proved all Lady Eagles, however, as Faulkner sparked a 16-8 run that culminated just over half way through the final period. The birds would gain their largest lead of the evening at 12 points with under 30 seconds to play en route to the convincing win.
Faith LeGate led the home team with 23 points and added eight rebounds and a pair of steals.
Olivia Adamson had 15 points anchored by her 3-for-6 effort from behind the arc and tallied seven boards and two blocks on the night.
Brandy Alley and Hannah Vest each offered up 11 points and registered six and three rebounds and four and three assists, respectively.
“We haven’t had a great first part to third quarters lately,” said head coach Reed Sutton, “and we talked about that today. It was exciting to see that aggressive play right out of the gate following halftime. I think everybody did what they do well today. That’s the cool thing about this game today, everyone just did their job. Numbers don’t always tell the whole story and I think this was a great team win.”
Faulkner will next host conference foe Breanu on Saturday at 2 p.m. The Lady Eagles will look to even the playing field yet again in that matchup. The Golden Tigers won the previous bout 99-97 in double overtime.
